Lama's Artistic Residency
The Peace Project, Nicaragua.
Lama Theater Company just finished a 20 day artistic project in Laguna Apoyo, Nicaragua (January 28th - February 16th, 2016) We collaborated with The Peace Project.
Lama had 10 interdisciplinary artists from the USA that lived, created and volunteered in The Peace Project for 20 days and it was AWESOME!
We volunteered with the community and helped to tackle the garbage issue at Laguna de Apoyo. We are finished this project in April 27th where we showed glimpse of our work in Lama's

Chloe, a new member of Lama Theatre Company and one of the artists found the experience to be “Simultaneously restorative and invigorating! I can’t wait for the next residency already! It’s a great way to inspire creativity and gain a sense of a different culture while also integrating and helping out with the local community”
We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all those who helped fund the project. Every little bit really did help us in making this project come together: Mary Rose, Vivienne smith, Boleszek Osinski, Paul Valenti, Neal Epstein, Anna Gray, Alexis Braxton, Rishi Patel, Mary Francina Golden, Justine Hall and more anonymous donors that helped us raise $1,686!!
What is this Project ?
Lama wanted to encourage interdisciplinary artists from around the globe to create new work within a supportive environment. We provided the artists the space and time to take risks in ways that would further the development of their practice. The residency program allowed the artists a rural and serene environment in which to work creatively without distractions. Support to the community via the peace project, consisted of group sessions, collaboration, children’s workshops.
How?
Time was set aside for revitalizing the creative spirit, pursuing new trains of thought, and concentrating on an idea already in the works are essential parts of being a productive artist. Lama’s opportunity in Nicaragua offered the artist a tranquil, natural environment in which to think, plan, and work.

The Peace project is a nonprofit organization that has inspired over 25,000 artists, donors, corporations, service businesses, art patrons and others in 70 countries to donate art, money, resources and time which have helped The Peace Project transform tens of thousands of lives worldwide. Its ambitious objective is to change what people think about change. The Peace Project’s heartfelt belief is that people working in unison, in community, are the most powerful agents for change and we are extremely excited to be a part of their environment for 20 days to volunteer in the local community and make a change through the magic world of theater.
